Resumo

A discussão sobre a exibição de símbolos religiosos em escolas questiona até que ponto eles podem ter algum efeito prejudicial sobre menores impressionáveis. Contudo, seu aspecto mais importante diz respeito ao debate sobre o lugar da religião na sociedade: tanto o grau em que preferências religiosas pessoais deveriam ser acomodadas quanto o grau em que democracias liberais podem legitimamente demonstrar qualquer caráter religioso – e ambos são fundamentais para a questão da coesão social.
